Child Day Habilitation

Child Day Habilitation at Unity Developmental Disabilities Care Center (UDDCC) provides structured, skill-building support for children with developmental disabilities or traumatic brain injuries (TBI) in a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment. Our program focuses on helping each child develop functional life skills, social abilities, independence, and emotional regulation through supervised, person-centered activities.

Day Habilitation is not childcare — it is a therapeutic, developmental program designed to help children learn, grow, and gain meaningful skills for everyday life.

Child Day Habilitation includes:

  • Daily living skills training
(hygiene routines, dressing, mealtime skills, organization)

  • Social and communication skill development
    (peer interaction, emotional expression, turn-taking)

  • Behavioral and sensory support
    provided through trauma-informed practices

  • Community integration activities
(parks, libraries, outings, learning in real environments)

  • Fine and gross motor activities
    (crafts, play, movement activities)

  • Cognitive skill-building
    (problem-solving, following directions, attention)

  • Recreational and therapeutic play

  • Transportation to and from the program (if needed)

Our trained staff provide:

  • Individualized support aligned with each child’s ISP

  • Positive behavior strategies

  • Safety supervision at all times

  • Collaboration with families, schools, therapists, and case managers

  • Daily documentation and communication with caregivers

  • Support for children in foster care or specialized placements

Our Approach

UDDCC uses a structured, nurturing, and person-centered model that helps children:

  • Build independence

  • Increase communication

  • Strengthen motor and sensory regulation

  • Improve social interaction

  • Explore interests and talents

  • Prepare for school, home routines, and community participation

Child Day Habilitation helps children reach their fullest potential by creating a supportive, developmental environment where learning happens naturally through play, engagement, and meaningful experiences.
